To celebrate Culture Night 2018, the Garage Theatre will offer two unique workshop opportunities with renowned local visual artist Niamh O’Connor and award winning Púca Puppets from 5pm to 8pm.
This Culture Night, join professional visual artist Niamh O’Connor, for an introduction and demonstration into the fascinating medium of Encaustic Wax. Niamh will display the many and various ways this wax-based medium can be used, from the craft of using irons on card right up to and including the use of encaustic for fine art in painting, printing and even sculpture. Discover the ancient origins of the medium, its contemporary uses and global appeal as well as its ultimate adaptability and mixed media capabilities.
The first fifteen people to register on the night will be invited to try their hand at ‘Craft iron work on card’ and will leave with a number of small works of their own and a wonderful insight into the techniques, spontaneity and control needed to learn this endlessly fascinating art form. Encaustic fun try-outs will be conducted in 3 sessions, at 5 persons per session, at ten minutes each.
Púca Puppets’ Béirín Beag Buí is a lullaby film for young children. Winner of a Dingle International Film Festival’s Fisín Award it is about the magical world of dreams between sleep and waking.

In addition to seeing the film children may have a chance to meet the Little Yellow Bear, to ask questions and to respond creatively with their family.
